InFlorida.com – Dwyer HS Student, NPB Resident Honored by State for Volunteer Work

WEST PALM BEACH – Kayla Abramowitz, a North Palm Beach resident and student at William T. Dwyer High School has been honored by the Florida Department of Education as Outstanding School Volunteer in the Youth category for the State of Florida.

Abramowitz was previously recognized as the Palm Beach County School District’s Outstanding Youth School Volunteer. She is the founder and CEO of Kayla Cares 4 Kids, a non-profit organization that donates items to children in the hospital.

Abramowitz started her non-profit at the age of 11, and her efforts have inspired many of her classmates. She began the initiative by collecting entertainment and educational items to donate to children’s hospitals.

She now has the help of ambassadors in 12 states and has recruited hundreds of student volunteers in Palm Beach County and numerous businesses throughout the country to support the mission.

Kayla Cares 4 Kids has donated more than 16,000 items to 425 children’s hospitals and Ronald McDonald houses in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.

Terri Priore was also recognized by the state as the Outstanding Adult School Volunteer for her volunteer work in Wellington schools.

The annual Outstanding School Volunteer awards are presented to students and adults who donate their time to further enhance the hard work taking place in Florida’s K-12 public education system. Awardees will receive a congratulatory letter from Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart, and a mounted certificate.
